Jika anda mencoba google dengan keyword Gili Lawa, hampir dapat ane pastiin kalo yang muncul adalah gambar bukit bersavana dengan lautan teluk yang bundar dengan beberapa rona hitam, yang menunjukkan posisi coral dibawah permukaan. Ya, Gili Lawa mengacu kepada 2 pulau di utara Komodo, Gili Lawa Darat dan Gili Lawa Laut, keduanya merupakan 2 pulau vulkanis yang ditutupi oleh savana. Selain itu, Gili Lawa juga dikenal sebagai lokasi penyelaman dan snorkeling di sekitar Taman Nasional Komodo. Dalam tulisan ini ane bakal bicara lebih banyak seputar pengalaman di Gili Lawa Laut. Anda bisa melakukan trekking & snorkeling disini. Fotografi mungkin hukumnya wajib, hehehe.

If you try the Gili Lawa keyword on google, your screen will show you some photograph of savanna hills near a blue circular bay with dotted coral near it's shore. The name of Gili Lawa is associate with 2 island, Gili Lawa Laut (literaly : Gili Lawa of Ocean) and Gili Lawa Darat (literaly : Gili Lawa of Land), both of them are volcanic savanna covered island in the north of Komodo. Gili Lawa also acknowledge as a fine dive site around Komodo National Park. In this entry, i will talk a lot about my experience in Gili Lawa Laut. You can do both hills trekking & snorkeling here, as the photography comes with a heavy must. 

HILLS TREKKING

Winding the afternoon, even the whole year in a savanna hills

Adalah sebuah bukit berselimut sabana yang menyenangkan, anda bisa membuat foto yang unik disini, atau sekedar melepas kejenuhan di sore hari setelah tahun yang berat. Hijau akan lebih mendominasi di musim hujan. Wisatawan biasanya akan menuju ke puncak punggungan paling barat, tengah atau timur. ketiganya menawarkan pemandangan indah yang berbeda.

It was a joyful savanna covered hill, a unique one for making a photography or just winding your afternoon. Green will be more dominant in the rainy season.  Tourist usually taking a walk to the western end, center or eastern end of the hill's fringe. all of them provide you a different taste from Gili Lawa.

Tujuan tertinggi dan yang paling menantang, adalah berjalan menuju puncak di ujung barat. Biasanya memakan waktu sekitar setengah jam perjalanan normal, tidak terlalu sulit, namun cukup membuat sesak nafas. Ane saranin menggunakan sepatu trekking atau sendal trekking yang punya tali penahan di bagian tumit. Jalanan tanah kering berbatu dapat membuat anda terpeleset jika kurang hati-hati. Jika anda berjalan bersama-sama, pastikan anda tidak membuat bebatuan (yang lumayan besar, seukuran apel hingga melon) berguling ke bawah, karena dapat membahayakan rekan anda dibelakang. 

The highest and the most challenging is a trekking to the most west peak. Its usually take a half an hour trekking. I suggest you for using a pair of trekking shoes or a trekking sandals with a lock on your heels. As the track dominated by dry rocky ground , you will need to be careful if you dont want to slipped. If you walk in a group, be sure for do not make the stones (which are quite a size) tremble down as it will danger your mate behind.

Dari puncak barat, anda dapat menyaksikan gili lawa secara keseluruhan, lingkaran bundar teluknya yang seperti terputus, oleh selat antara Gili Lawa Laut dan Gili Lawa Darat. Laut yang bergradasi hijau dan biru, bahkan anda dapat mengenali daerah yang menyimpan coral dibawah permukaannya. Lalu juga barisan bukit sabana ini secara keseluruhan.  Jika melihat ke balik bukit, ke arah barat, anda dapat menyaksikan sebuah pantai coral dimana terkadang akan terlihat ikan pari manta bermain disana. Puncak ini juga terhubung ke jalur punggungan ke arah tengah.

From the west peak, you can get all of Gili Lawa on your sight. The complete  circular line of bay that looks like broke by the strait, which separated Gili Lawa Laut & Gili Lawa Darat. The chain of savanna hills will calm your sight. Cyan-blue gradated sea, even the existence of coral in several point can be acknowledge from here. Look out to the west side, behing the hills body, you will find a coral shore where sometimes manta ray spotted here, swiftly swim with its large pectoral fins. This peak is also connected to the center part of the fringe.

Bukit barat juga terkenal sebagai spot untuk menunggu sunset. bayangkan komposisi lengkap teluk Gili Lawa, ditambah dengan pantulan cahaya jingga matahari sore. Kehadiran sabana yang hijau juga beberapa boat yang bagus di pinggiran laut juga akan menghiasi pemandangan. Naiklah jam 5 waktu setempat untuk dapat bersantai sejenak dan menikmati sunset di puncak.

Western peak, also famous as a location for sunset hunting. imagine the complete bay composition with the reflection of yellow shining setting sun, in addition, the green savannah will make it looks better, while some remarkable boats spotted on the shore. I suggest you to climb your way up here on 5 o'clock in the local time, as you can put a relax time and wait for the sunset on it

SUNRISE

2016 First Sunrise, from Gili Lawa Laut, West hill

Jika anda menyaksikan matahari terbenam diujung barat, maka kebalikannya, anda akan menyaksikan sunrise di punggungan paling timur. Perjalanan 10 menit di pinggir pantai disambung dengan jalur yang sedikit mendaki untuk dapat melihat matahari terbit di seberang lautan dan pantulan cahaya di permukaannya. Perlahan akan naik dan semakin terang, diantara perbukitan dan pulau-pulau, dan diselingi kegiatan boat lalu-lalang dipagi hari. Anda bakal menyaksikan waktu bergulir dengan indah disini.

If you can watch the sunset on the west hill's peak, then the opposite is most east fringe. You can take a 10 minutes walk in the shore lines then take the common path, to watch the rising sun across the sea and reflected light in the surface. Slowly rise the degree, become lighter beyond some hilly island, and watch the boat activity in the morning. Its a beautiful lapsing time.

SNORKELING

Jika anda adalah penggila coral atau sekedar menggemari snorkeling, Gili Lawa menawarkan keindahannya untuk anda telusuri. Keaneka-ragaman di ekosistem terumbu karang Gili Lawa akan menjadi pengalaman tersendiri untuk anda. Karang dan ikan yang beraneka warna, bahkan tidak sulit untuk menemukan clown fish alias nemo disini, anda dapat menemukan beberapa lokasi anemon dengan mudah. Dengan kedalaman 2 hingga 5 meter, anda tidak perlu ragu untuk menggunakan fin. 

If you a fans of coral reef or having snorkeling as your hobby, Gili Lawa offers it's beauty for you to explore. The biodiversity ecosystem will be your pleasure of experience. The colorful coral and fishes, the clown fish is not hard to find here, as you will spotted anemon location so many times during snorkeling. With the depth vary from 2 to 5 meters, you dont need to be hesitated for using your fin.

Pulau Kelor berada di lautan sebelah barat pulau Flores. Dari pulau kelor, anda masih bisa menyaksikan perbukitan-perbukitan di ujung barat pulau Flores.

Observe from a Distance

Pulau Kelor sepertinya juga merupakan salah satu pulau vulkanis, kebanyakan pulau-pulau disini termasuk pulau Komodo juga begitu. Jika dilihat dari kapal, seperti bukit tandus yang muncul dari permukaan laut.

Kelor island is a volcano island, as many other islands located here, including Komodo Island itself. If you observe from the boat, you will see it as a barren hill that come up the sea surface.

Pulau kelor sendiri terdiri dari sebuah bukit tunggal setinggi kira-kira 20 meter  (ini pengamatan pribadi, belom di konfirmasi yaa…). Batas laut sebelah barat adalah bebatuan dari bukit ini. Sedangkan sebelah timur adalah pantai menghadap ke pulau Flores.

Kelor island can be recognized from a distance by a single hill stand in a sandy island. West side of this hill is a rocky shore, while the east side is a beach facing Flores.

Around the Island

Nama Kelor sendiri berarti 'makan' dalam bahasa Sasak. Mungkin saja dulunya memang tempat yang dipilih sebagai tempat buat makan oleh pelaut-pelaut, ane melihat beberapa dataran yang cocok dijadiin lapak piknik. Selain itu, di tempat ini juga ane pertama kali berkenalan dengan hidangan khas paket sailing dari Labuan Bajo, yang menurut penilaian ane, melebihi apa yang diharapkan.

Literally, the name Kelor itself is aword for 'eat' or 'dine' in Sasak language. Probably due to some part of this island is so comfortable for picnic, i wonder if in its old time, sailor choose this island for a lunch break. And for me, this was the point when my tongue met the menu of sailing package from Labuan Bajo, which are extraordinary and exceed my expectation.

Sebelah timur Pulau Kelor adalah pantai dengan pasir yang cukup putih dan crystal clear water cuy! Buat berenang-berenang mah asik banget. Tapi kudu lumayan hati-hati, terakhir kali ane kesini di Desember 2015, arusnya cukup kenceng. Perjuangan banget ketika ane kudu menarik baju pelampung temen ane yang lain buat pulang ke darat, yah kita emang kejauhan waktu itu, hamper 15 meter dari bibir pantai. Kalo di pinggir sih, lumayan eksotis lah.

In the east side is a slightly slopped clean and white beach, and also a crystal clear water. You can swim here, enjoy the sand and the water. But be careful, don’t go far from the shore as the current is quite strong. Last time I get here, it was a struggle, while I pulled my travel mate’s safety fest from 15 meters from the shore line. But after all, it was a nice swimming on the beach.

Buat penggemar snorkeling mungkin tidak akan terlalu puas dengan coralnya, arus yang cukup kuat, tidak terlalu berwarna dan jarang, di pantai sebelah selatan. Apalagi jika anda bermaksud menggunakan longfin disini, tidak terlalu dalam pada bagian reef nya, lagian, untuk kondisi arus yang kuat, konstruksi full footed fin mungkin akan menyulitkan dengan kelenturan tumitnya.

For a fan of freediving, you should be patient with just a common sandy reef in the southern beach. Moreover, for a long fin user, the strong current force is not suitable with your full-footed construction, the flexible hills will be much difficult and powerless.

Satu-satunya di pulau ini, adalah sebuah bukit tandus berwarna coklat kekuningan, mungkin karena efek musim kering. Bukit ini membentang dari utara hingga ke ujung selatan pulau. Jalur mendaki 20-30⁰ dengan keadaan kering dan berdebu ditambah dengan panas terik matahari di siang hari adalah tantangan disini. Ane sarankan jangan pake baju hitam waktu trekking. Juga pakailah alas kaki yang tepat. Jalur tandus berpasir bisa bikin kepeleset. Tapi perjuangan tentunya setimpal dengan apa yang didapat. Komposisi pemandangan perbukitan Flores, lautan yang biru bergradasi dan tanjung pasir yang putih. Yaah, lumayan banyak foto mainstream disini, hehehe.

The only one in this island, is a brown-yellow-barren hills guess that due to the dry season. 20-30⁰slopped dusty track, combined with the so called midday sun is quite a challenge. I suggest you for not wear a black suit and use a proper shoes for trekking, as the sandy-dry path can easily make you slipped away. But the struggle is come together with a great gift. A composition of Flores’s chain of hills, a gradated-blue sea with a sun shine sparkle and also a tip of sandy Kelor Island Peninsula. They were a common and famous photography here.

Secara keseluruhan, Pulau Kelor menghibur, cocok untuk menghilangkan kejenuhan. Biasanya diletakkan di awal atau di akhir urutan, dalam rangkaian tur LOB dari Labuan Bajo. Bule-bule disini menghabiskan waktu untuk berjemur sepeti di pantai-pantai Bali. Bikini dimana-mana vroh! Ups.

After all, Kelor Island is quite entertaining and suitable to winding your day. It’s usually put in the very beginning or last in order for a LOB tour from Labuan Bajo. You will see so many tourist here taking a nap, sun bathing just like in Bali.

Extraordinary Padar Island

terasa seperti menempuh perjalanan menuju 'puncak gunung' dipinggir laut, jika di gunung anda disuguhi pemandangan negeri diatas awan, dan disini adalah lautan yang biru lengkap dengan gradasi kedalamannya.

I would like to share a little story about my traveling experience. Together with Vakansitrip, I framed some cool spot in Indonesia, and what I can say, you should be there even once in a lifetime. PADAR ISLAND, Flores.

Kalian akan mengenali pulau Padar di peta dengan bentuknya, yang seakan dicabik dari Pulau Rinca yang berada di sebelah timurnya. Sebagai pulau vulkanis yang timbul diantara Pulau Rinca dan Komodo, Pulau Padar juga didaftarkan sebagai bagian dari situs warisan dunia Taman Nasional Komodo, walaupun belakangan tidak ditemukan kehidupan komodo disini.

You will recognize Padar island in the map, as if it was torn from Rinca Island, which are located in it east side. As a volcanic island that appears between Rinca & Komodo Island, Padar Island is also listed as one of world heritage site, Komodo National Park, even nowadays there is not any existence of komodo sighted here.

Pengalaman terakhir kite ke Pulau Padar adalah perjalanan yang cukup menegangkan dibandingkan dengan pulau-pulau lain, dalam rangkaian pelayaran LOB (live on board) dari Labuan Bajo. Dikelilingi oleh karang-karang yang cukup besar disekitar Pulau Padar, lautan barat Flores yang biasanya terlihat tenag, disini cukup berombak. Perjalanan ke arah Pulau Padar dari dermaga Kampung Komodo juga tidak secepat biasanya dikarenakan arus yang cukup kuat mendekati tujuan. 

Our last experience going to Padar Island is quite a breath-taking journey, compared to another island, in the series of sailing LOB (Live on Board) from Labuan Bajo. Due to some big rock around Padar, the usually calm sea surface become a quite wavy. A journey from Komodo Valley was slower when it comes nearer to Padar, thanks to a hard current.

Karang Batu Mandi, begitu pelaut-pelaut dari Bugis memberi istilah untuk formasi dua karang yang saling berdekatan, menciptakan arus yang cukup kuat dibandingkan yang lain ditengah keduanya. Sang kapten terlihat cukup awas melewati bagian ini, dia bahkan memperingatkan awak yang mengendalikan kapal ketika kapal oleng karena laju yang terlalu cepat. 

Batu mandi rock, that is how the Bugis sailors call for two rocks close to each other, this formation leads to harder sea current between them. The Captain looks cautious when it comes to face the Batu Mandi, he even call the boat's man that holding the stir for slow down the boat speed.

Kite juga jadi lumayan awas. Ane sendiri berdiri disisi deck berpegangan ke tiang kapal, masih setengah bergaya cool pastinya, sambil memperhatikan karang-karang ini. Eksotis. Sayang banget, ane masih belum berani ngeluarin DSLR buat ngambil gambar. Maklum, harta satu-satunya euy...

We also became evocate for what will coming next. I stand in the deck side and tow my hand to the newel as if the current will make me throwed out of the boat, while my eyes still stuck to the rocks colony.  Thrilling exotic. Hate that, i still too much cautious for grab my DSLR and take the picture.

Benar saja, bagian karang yang bernama Batu Mandi akhirnya menunjukkan kelasnya (apa sih). Kapal kami oleng hampir 45 derajat, menumpahkan beberapa isi meja yang ada ditengah deck ke laut. Suasana menegang. Ketika kapal kembali tenang, si kapten tiba-tiba berbicara "yang sudah pergi,  berarti sudah tidak ingin lagi bersama kita", dalam sekejap suasana menjadi tertawa dan cair. Candaan yang mungkin saja garing disaat yang lain, namun saat ini terasa cukup dalam, berhubung kami semua ternyata punya kesamaan, sama-sama orang yang ditinggalkan euy... HAHAH

And our caution is proved to be necessary. Batu Mandi current finally shocked our boats, tilt it almost 45 degree and throw our belonging in the decks table, make a ruckus on the deck. When the boats get calm, Captain suddenly said something funny about anything which get off the boat is no longer wants to be the part of ours, so leave them be. This joke will be a coldest one in a normal situation, but it means deeper for now and break the aftershock silent. We laugh together about it

Boat memasuki sebuah teluk di sebelah utara, yang dikelilingi oleh bukit-bukit raksasa. Seperti bukit-bukit kebanyakan di wilayah ini, Pulau Padar terdiri dari bukit-bukit tandus.Yang membuatnya berbeda, mungkin adalah kontur curam yang langsung bertemu dengan laut. Mengamati ini dari kapal yang berjarak relatif dekat, membuat sedikit gemetar, seperti berada di depan sesuatu yang besar dan gagah. Mungkin buat ane aja sih, tapi pulau ini punya wibawa yang aneh. 

Our boat then entered a bay in the north side, surrounded by gigantic hills. Just like another hills around that area, Padar Island consist of barren hills. What make it special are the abrupt rocky shore as the hills footed. Observe this from a boat with a close distant, make me trembled, just like stand against a great and dashing. Maybe it’s only for me, but this hills possess a strange power. Its a majestic island.

Di bagian ini juga, jika anda cukup beruntung, akan melihat rusa. Sejauh ini, satu-satunya vertebrata yang terlihat di Pulau Padar.

If you lucky enough, you will see a wild deer around those hills. So far, it was the only vertebratae class seen in Padar Island.

Boat kami mendekati pantai yang terdiri dari pecahan-pecahan terumbu karang yang terbawa hingga ke pinggir. Perbukitan disini sepertinya memang dirancang untuk trekking, kami bahkan sudah melihat sebuah jalur masuk yang berada dibalik pohon. Jalur ini merupakan sebuah lembah. Lembah berarti berada diantara 2 buah bukit. Walaupun begitu, tetap terlihat cuku terjal ketika akan ditempuh.

Our boat came closer to the shore, it was a death-coral heap beach. This hilly island seems like designed for trekking purpose. We even see the entering path from the boat, the dry dusty sheer path behind a tree.

TREKKING

Dalam beberapa kesempatan diwaktu muda (okay!), ane sempet mendaki beberapa gunung, dan Alhamdulillah semuanya sampai ke puncak. Dengan hawa khas pinggiran laut yang cukup panas, trekking di Pulau Padar terasa seperti menempuh perjalanan menuju 'puncak gunung' dipinggir laut, jika di gunung anda disuguhi pemandangan negeri diatas awan, dan disini anda bakal disuguhi panorama lautan yang biru lengkap dengan gradasi kedalamannya. Spesial gan!

In some occasion when I was young, I try to go to some peak of mountain. The temperature is quite hot, as it is an area near to ocean, but its also make trekking in this island felt like as it was a seaside 'mountain peak end' track, meanwhile you will enjoy the view of blue gradated ocean instead of a heaven of cloud.

Jalur awal merupakan permulaan yang terjal, sekitar 30⁰, disarankan menggunakan sepatu yang memang dirancang untuk keperluan trekking. Jalur yang kering dan berpasir, dapat membuat anda terpeleset.

bagian terakhir adalah tanjakan di punggungan bukit hingga ke puncak, percayalah ini bagian terbaik, yang terkadang membuat dengkul bertemu dengan dada untuk memanjat diantara sela batu.

Jika kalian melihat foto perbukitan yang khas di instagram, mungkin itu adalah pulau Padar. Pemandangan 3 teluk , yang sering disebut sebagai 'tiga danau', dikombinasikan dengan komposisi langit berawan, lautan biru bergradasi dan perbukitan tandus yang sedang kering. Ane merekomendasiin anda-anda menggunakan lensa berjenis wide, belajar dari pengalaman ane, tanggung banget make focal 18 mm.

Setelah anda mengambil gambar, cobalah untuk mengamati keindahannya lewat frame. Dan terakhir bayangkan jika satu saja sejenis hotel ato vila ato apapun lah, sumpah guys, ane bener-bener menahan diri untuk ga nulis nyampah buat bangunan-bangunan itu. Jauh-jauh ke Padar, eh...

If you see a unique photograph of a hilly region at instagram, that would be the Padar Island probably. 3 bays, cloudy sky, gradated blue ocean and barren and dry hills. I would like to recommend for using wide lens, as the 18 mm of focal is not enough to catch the peninsula tip.

Ane sempet melihat coral dalam perjalanan memasuki teluk, tapi belum sempet nyobain snorkeling. Melihat arus teluk yang cukup tenang, tentunya akan menjadi pengalaman yang menyenangkan. 

I noted some colorful coral prescense when entering the bay. Imagine you do snorkeling here, with a calm bay, that would be a nice experience.

Secara pribadi ane terkesan dengan pulau ini, sepertinya melebihi apa yang ane harapkan. Dari pemandangannya, serunya track dan juga banyak pertanyaan baru yang muncul dalem kepala ane. Juga sensasi raksasa dari bukit-bukit curam disini, menegaskan kalo sebagai manusia ane terlalu kecil buat bisa nyombong (bijak ini mah ceritanya). Anda-anda para pembaca, minimal harus kesini sekali lah, tapi jangan lupa, mohon dijaga yaa... Indonesia kaya men! sekalian kelakuannya juga selayaknya orang kaya yang rajin dan rendah hati!

Personally, i was thrilled by this island, totally above my expectation. the view, the track and a wisdom that sounded by those gigantic hills. I remind you for support the conservation of the beauty itself, as i do believe that we are in a same side for keeping the value of this World Heritage, the last thing i expect is to see a contemporary building development in here. I sincerely say to you, my reader, is YOU SHOULD BE HERE!  

This writing is also dedicated for prevention of turning Padar Island itself  into a commercial development site. As the world heritage Padar Island should be free, enjoyable and conserved by all the people all over the world.
