Pulau Kelor berada di lautan sebelah barat pulau Flores. Dari pulau kelor, anda masih bisa menyaksikan perbukitan-perbukitan di ujung barat pulau Flores.

Pulau Kelor sepertinya juga merupakan salah satu pulau vulkanis, kebanyakan pulau-pulau disini termasuk pulau Komodo juga begitu. Jika dilihat dari kapal, seperti bukit tandus yang muncul dari permukaan laut.

Kelor island is a volcano island, as many other islands located here, including Komodo Island itself. If you observe from the boat, you will see it as a barren hill that come up the sea surface.

Pulau kelor sendiri terdiri dari sebuah bukit tunggal setinggi kira-kira 20 meter  (ini pengamatan pribadi, belom di konfirmasi yaa…). Batas laut sebelah barat adalah bebatuan dari bukit ini. Sedangkan sebelah timur adalah pantai menghadap ke pulau Flores.

Kelor island can be recognized from a distance by a single hill stand in a sandy island. West side of this hill is a rocky shore, while the east side is a beach facing Flores.

Nama Kelor sendiri berarti 'makan' dalam bahasa Sasak. Mungkin saja dulunya memang tempat yang dipilih sebagai tempat buat makan oleh pelaut-pelaut, ane melihat beberapa dataran yang cocok dijadiin lapak piknik. Selain itu, di tempat ini juga ane pertama kali berkenalan dengan hidangan khas paket sailing dari Labuan Bajo, yang menurut penilaian ane, melebihi apa yang diharapkan.

Literally, the name Kelor itself is aword for 'eat' or 'dine' in Sasak language. Probably due to some part of this island is so comfortable for picnic, i wonder if in its old time, sailor choose this island for a lunch break. And for me, this was the point when my tongue met the menu of sailing package from Labuan Bajo, which are extraordinary and exceed my expectation.

Sebelah timur Pulau Kelor adalah pantai dengan pasir yang cukup putih dan crystal clear water cuy! Buat berenang-berenang mah asik banget. Tapi kudu lumayan hati-hati, terakhir kali ane kesini di Desember 2015, arusnya cukup kenceng. Perjuangan banget ketika ane kudu menarik baju pelampung temen ane yang lain buat pulang ke darat, yah kita emang kejauhan waktu itu, hamper 15 meter dari bibir pantai. Kalo di pinggir sih, lumayan eksotis lah.

In the east side is a slightly slopped clean and white beach, and also a crystal clear water. You can swim here, enjoy the sand and the water. But be careful, don’t go far from the shore as the current is quite strong. Last time I get here, it was a struggle, while I pulled my travel mate’s safety fest from 15 meters from the shore line. But after all, it was a nice swimming on the beach.

Buat penggemar snorkeling mungkin tidak akan terlalu puas dengan coralnya, arus yang cukup kuat, tidak terlalu berwarna dan jarang, di pantai sebelah selatan. Apalagi jika anda bermaksud menggunakan longfin disini, tidak terlalu dalam pada bagian reef nya, lagian, untuk kondisi arus yang kuat, konstruksi full footed fin mungkin akan menyulitkan dengan kelenturan tumitnya.

For a fan of freediving, you should be patient with just a common sandy reef in the southern beach. Moreover, for a long fin user, the strong current force is not suitable with your full-footed construction, the flexible hills will be much difficult and powerless.

Satu-satunya di pulau ini, adalah sebuah bukit tandus berwarna coklat kekuningan, mungkin karena efek musim kering. Bukit ini membentang dari utara hingga ke ujung selatan pulau. Jalur mendaki 20-30⁰ dengan keadaan kering dan berdebu ditambah dengan panas terik matahari di siang hari adalah tantangan disini. Ane sarankan jangan pake baju hitam waktu trekking. Juga pakailah alas kaki yang tepat. Jalur tandus berpasir bisa bikin kepeleset. Tapi perjuangan tentunya setimpal dengan apa yang didapat. Komposisi pemandangan perbukitan Flores, lautan yang biru bergradasi dan tanjung pasir yang putih. Yaah, lumayan banyak foto mainstream disini, hehehe.

The only one in this island, is a brown-yellow-barren hills guess that due to the dry season. 20-30⁰slopped dusty track, combined with the so called midday sun is quite a challenge. I suggest you for not wear a black suit and use a proper shoes for trekking, as the sandy-dry path can easily make you slipped away. But the struggle is come together with a great gift. Secara keseluruhan, Pulau Kelor menghibur, cocok untuk menghilangkan kejenuhan. Biasanya diletakkan di awal atau di akhir urutan, dalam rangkaian tur LOB dari Labuan Bajo. Bule-bule disini menghabiskan waktu untuk berjemur sepeti di pantai-pantai Bali. Bikini dimana-mana vroh! Ups.

After all, Kelor Island is quite entertaining and suitable to winding your day. It’s usually put in the very beginning or last in order for a LOB tour from Labuan Bajo. You will see so many tourist here taking a nap, sun bathing just like in Bali.
